Ford said it has sold a dozen of Ford Transit Connect van with gas engines natural to work as taxis in Chicago from March, a sale which is part of the city plan to increase use of alternative vehicles.

Ford noted that the official data show that vehicles running on natural gas emit between 30 and 40 percent fewer greenhouse gases than using gasoline. Furthermore, natural gas is cheaper than petroleum fuel.

Taxis have been purchased by Medallion Taxi Management Company and Yellow Cab will be affiliated with Chicago.

Transit Connect model is a vehicle developed in the European market that came to America early last year, part of Ford to use the same vehicles in different markets.

For America, and oriented to small and medium enterprises, Ford Transit Connect installed on a 2-liter Duratec engine with a four-speed automatic transmission.

This year, Ford added prepaquetes that turn the van into taxis and replace the gasoline-powered engines powered by natural gas or propane. Ford has also added XLT Premium Wagon variant with an online program to customize the graphical aspects of the vehicle.
